Kirtan/chanting workshop to celebrate yoga & to celebrate life

Saturday 19th December 1.30pm - 3.30pm Adults £10.00 children free

Chanting is joyful. Chanting is fun. Chanting is freeing.
Kirtan means to celebrate being alive by chanting, clapping and drumming.

The Kirtan workshop involves getting together with other yogins to chant the many names of life. The chants we use are easy to learn and they work by being repeated over and over again. The repetition is important because when embraced it swiftly clears negativity from the mind and fills all corners of the heart with contentment. The masters of old taught that there is no actual difference between the chant and life itself and that as the words roll off our lips peace fills our hearts.
Kirtan is part of a very ancient and still very popular form of yoga known as Bhakti yoga. Bhakti yoga brings clarity by channelling emotional energy into beautiful chants that celebrate and respect all life.
In our workshop we will immerse ourselves in this endlessly flowing spiritual river of life by using chants that are hundreds and thousands of years old.

Kirtan is said to be the yoga for all people. There are no masters of Kirtan, no experts, no teachers, no advanced students, and no beginners. The practice itself is the teacher. There is no right or wrong way to practise Kirtan. Just like the river of life itself sometimes chanting can be breathtakingly beautiful, and at other times it can also be almost painful to the ears! The wonky bits are often more liberating than the sweet harmonies! We do not gather to practice being singers (fortunately!) we gather to practice being playful for a while! Why not come along and have some fun. How often do you get a chance to play?
There is absolutely no need to worry about what you sound like! You will find the experience like an oasis in the midst of the hectic Christmas preparations. Even just listening will put a smile on your face.
During the afternoon some yoga practitioners are taking on a yogic name which will definitely make the celebration even more wonderful.
